Howl’s bedroom is his personal sanctuary from the world. His bedroom is filled with wards, talismans and spells to hide his presence from those that seek him. The room is also filled with all manner of childhood toys and artifacts, many of which could be found in Howl’s mind cave.

Calcifer

Calcifer is a fire daemon that flues the Castle. Powered by Calcifer, the noisy castle emits steam and roams around like a living creature. He was originally a falling star, whom Howl was able to catch before he fell to earth and extinguished.
Howl describes Calcifer as "his weakest point", because Calcifer wouldn’t give away another demon if it entered the Castle, even if it had hostile intentions. However, Howl’s statement is true in more ways than one…

Sophie

Sophie is the main protagonist in the Castle. She runs her family`s hat shop. When a witch casts a curse on her, turning her into an old woman, she goes to search the cure and finds the Castle.
Sophie meets Howl for the first time when he rescues her from soldiers who are sexually harassing her by calling her 'Sweetheart.' He apologized for being late and said he was looking 'everywhere' for her. He further casts a spell on them which forces them to march off. Howl then escorts Sophie to her younger sister Lettie’s bakery, being followed by The Witch of the Waste’s Blobbmen, he flies into the air, landing on the roof of the bakery. Next time Sophie meets him being a 90-year old granny.

markl

Markl is a disciple of Howl. Howl found Markl sleeping on his doorstep, and invited him in. Though he never explicitly told Markl he could stay, Howl allowed him to live in the castle, eventually making him his apprentice.

Turnip Head

While under a curse, Turnip Head appears as a scarecrow wearing a black suit, top hat with has a turnip for a head. He gets around by hopping like an unwound spring. He was the one who he searched for a place for 90-year old Sophie to stay, where he would find Howl’s castle.
Turnip Head is not really a part of the Castle team, but he is always somewhere nearby. He helped Sophie and Markl dry laundry. After Howl began to call upon the spirits of darkness, Turnip Head helped console Sophie. Afterward, Sophie went to Kingsbury. Upon her return, Turnip Head helped remove the flying machine she had crashed into the castle. Even after his curse was broken he made a promise to step by for a cup of tea.
